Arrest History in Yakima County
Yakima County Sheriff's Office, Yakima and Sunnyside police, other city departments, Yakama Tribal Police, and Washington State Patrol can each create an arrest report. If a person is booked, the receiving jail creates a separate custody record. Fingerprints support a Washington State Identification System arrest cycle, and a prosecutor may later file a case in Superior, District, or municipal court.
These records answer different questions. An agency report describes the incident and arrest. A booking record shows intake and custody. A court file identifies the charge actually filed and its outcome. WATCH supplies a narrower statewide public criminal-history product based on reported data. No official source establishes one online Yakima County archive that combines every past arrest.
Four Yakima County Arrest Records
One Yakima County arrest may leave four distinct trails. The police or sheriff report carries the event number, officer information, reported facts, and investigative material subject to redaction. Corrections records the booking, jail identifier, fingerprints, property, and custody status. The court records the prosecutor's filed charge, hearings, and disposition. Washington State Patrol links qualifying fingerprint-supported submissions and reported court outcomes in WASIS.
Start with the question, then choose the custodian. Current custody points to a roster or jail call. Incident facts point to the arresting agency. A plea, dismissal, acquittal, or sentence points to the court clerk. Statewide self-review points to WSP. Mixing those products can turn a temporary allegation into a false claim about a final outcome.
How to Look Up Yakima County Arrests
The right sequence depends on how recent the event is and which agency made the arrest. Yakima County has a public roster, but Sunnyside operates its own jail and roster. The county's researched roster endpoint also produced an error during inspection, so official fallbacks are part of the normal search path.
- Check the Yakima County inmate lookup for county custody. Check Sunnyside's official roster first when that city may hold the person.
- If intake is new or the page fails, call Yakima County Corrections at 509-574-1700 or use the official Yakima County Sheriff, WA app's Jail Info module.
- Request the incident or arrest report from the agency that made the arrest. YCSO uses its GovQA portal, printable form, phone, mail, and records counter.
- Search Washington Courts Case Search after filing, then request the actual case documents from the Superior, District, or municipal clerk.
- Use WATCH for the public statewide repository slice. For an identity-supported review of your own WSP record, follow the official fingerprint review process.
The official county inmate-lookup entry shows where Yakima County directs roster users.
The lookup is a custody tool, so a court search and agency request may still be needed after the person leaves the roster.
When Yakima County Roster Fails
Do not replace a failed Yakima County roster with an unofficial third-party booking site. Call Corrections, check the YCSO app, contact the arresting agency, and search the likely court once charges have been filed. The county confirms that name and R Number are used in jail services, but the failed endpoint prevented verification of every current search field, button, and result column.
The Yakima County jail-records page explains the difference between the public roster and restricted inmate records.
This official boundary is why an online booking view cannot be treated as the full inmate file.
Most other inmate records, including booking photos, are confidential under RCW 70.48.100. Nonmedical material requires the inmate's signed authorization or a court order for third-party release, while medical files use a separate health authorization or judicial order.
Note: Sunnyside has its own city jail and roster, so a county-only search can miss current Sunnyside custody.
What an Arrest Record Shows
A Yakima County arrest record may refer to an agency report or a jail booking, and the available fields differ. The public roster slice is narrower than the full Corrections file. Use an R Number, booking number, and agency case number only for the systems that issued them.
| R Number | The Yakima jail identifier used for lookup, mail, and other custody services; it is not a court cause number. |
|---|---|
| Booking number | A booking-cycle identifier used by jail processes, including legal-mail instructions. |
| Booking time and agency | Records intake and the law-enforcement agency tied to the arrest. |
| Booking allegation | Shows the reported custody charge, which may change before court filing. |
| Custody and release data | May show facility, unit, bond, or release information when the current official system exposes it. |
| Booking photo | Yakima County treats booking photos and most inmate files as confidential under RCW 70.48.100. |
| Court reference | Directs the reader to the filed case, where the actual charge and outcome belong. |
Do not infer an unverified roster field from another county's system. When a field is missing, call the jail or request the specific record from its custodian.
Who Owns Yakima County Arrest Reports
The arresting agency owns its incident report. YCSO requests go to the records office at 1822 South 1st Street, Yakima, WA 98903, or through the sheriff's GovQA portal. Call 509-574-2625. Public hours are weekdays from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The office promises an initial response within five business days, which may provide records, seek clarification, cite exemptions, or give a time estimate.

Recent Arrests and Booking Logs
Yakima County publishes a jail-roster entry point but no separate official daily arrest blotter was found. The roster is best used to check current or recent county custody. It does not establish a full historical arrest record, and an absent name can mean release, a different jail, delayed intake, or a technical failure. It cannot show that no arrest ever occurred.
For recent Yakima city or county events, pair the proper jail check with a call to the receiving facility and a report request to the arresting agency. For Sunnyside events, check the city roster before the county roster. If a prosecutor files charges, the court index becomes the next official trail. A later WATCH search may show reportable Washington history, but WSP warns that submissions can lag or be incomplete.
First 48 Yakima County Arrest Hours
Washington Criminal Rule 3.2.1 requires a probable-cause determination within 48 hours after a warrantless arrest unless one has already occurred. A prompt first appearance generally takes place by the close of the next court day. The judicial officer addresses the nature of the charge, counsel, release, and the right to remain silent. A judge, not a roster entry, sets release conditions.
Yakima County Pre-Trial Services is in courthouse Room B18 and can be reached at 509-574-1872. That office is part of the release process, not the custodian of an arrest report. The docket records the hearing and judicial decision. When the arrest began on a warrant, the issuing court also has the warrant record, and YCSO can be called around the clock at 509-574-2500 or 800-572-0490.
Yakima County Custody Alerts
Jail, prison, and notification tools cover different forms of custody. Yakima County's roster covers local jail custody. Washington DOC Incarcerated Search covers state custody. Federal Bureau of Prisons search covers federal custody. VINE supplies custody-change notifications and can help when the key need is an update rather than the full arrest record.
The official VINE service is the documented notification channel used in Washington.
VINE alerts supplement the jail, agency, and court records; they do not supply the incident narrative or final disposition.
Arrests vs Convictions
An arrest records a law-enforcement action and, when booking occurs, custody intake. A conviction is a court judgment of guilt. Yakima County jail and police records may keep the original allegation even when the prosecutor files a different charge or no charge. The court file is the source for dismissal, acquittal, plea, verdict, and sentence. WATCH is a repository product and not the originating court file.
| Arrest record | Conviction record |
|---|---|
| Created by an arresting agency and, if booked, a jail | Created through the court and clerk |
| Shows that an arrest or booking event occurred | Shows a formal finding or plea of guilt |
| Lives with police, sheriff, jail, and reported repository data | Lives in the court file and reported repository history |
| May lead to release, no filing, dismissal, or a case | May lead to sentence, appeal, or later statutory relief |
Note: An arrest is not proof of guilt, and the filed Yakima County case may end in dismissal or acquittal.
Correcting Yakima County Arrest History
If a dismissed arrest remains in a public result, first obtain the Yakima County court disposition. Then inspect your own WSP record through the Washington State Patrol review process. Corrections to an arrest or disposition start with the agency that originated the wrong entry, which must then transmit the update through WSP.
RCW 10.97.060 allows a subject to seek deletion of qualifying nonconviction information from general inquiry files after the statutory period and conditions are met. That remedy is not automatic and does not erase every agency report. A court vacation, court sealing, and repository deletion are separate processes. Keep certified case data and verify the result in both the court file and the WSP self-review record.
